Taking the Christmas Celebration to the Pubs

If only…
…the thousands of people who don't go to church – even at Christmas - not only heard about the good news of Jesus Christ but joined in the celebration of his birth.
Well in Leicestershire village churches this has been happening.
The SING CHRISTMAS live broadcast carol service on BBC Radio Leicester offers churches the opportunity to take the real message of Christmas to their local pubs, residential homes, community centres, hospitals etc.
All the churches had to do was to contact and work with local venues, receive the broadcast at 7pm on Thursday 20 December 2007 and invite people to join in. The brewers, Everards, asked their pubs to be involved, and came up with pubs faster than they could find churches to work with them!
Here are some comments:
"Sing Christmas brought together the largest group of villagers in years. About 90 people packed into The Dog and Gun to take part, including lots of children. People enjoyed it and stayed on afterwards. It was a real village event and has helped develop the pub as a social centre. Because of Sing Christmas we at the chapel want to do more community events – now planning a village Harvest Service in a local barn." John May, Walton Baptist Chapel. Venue – The Dog and Gun, Walton Village.
"Far more people than expected – even overflowing in the car park using the sound relay and appreciating the gas heaters. Great to see people calling their children over to take part in the prayers and hugging each other at the end. People have been talking about it for weeks." Ros Clark, St Michael and All Angels Church, Cosby. Venue – The Bull's Head, Cosby.
"Brilliant. Lovely. Was like having a church in our own front room. Residents loved it. Dead impressed. Want to do it next year." Tina, Hadrian House Residential Home, Thurmaston.
